Notable Work
To an ironworker who was struck from behind by a hydraulic machine resulting in chronic neck and arm pain and significant limitations from his injuries.
Jury Verdict for a pregnant woman whose improperly treated severe preeclampsia led to a brain bleed and neurological injuries and complications.
For a mother who suffered a ruptured uterus and a baby who suffered neurological injuries during childbirth.
For a brain injured newborn whose labor and delivery was mismanaged by the failure to expeditiously perform a cesarean section in the presence of persistent abnormal fetal heart tracing.
A union laborer who had been with his employer for approximately six years was tragically killed when the trench he was working in collapsed and immediately flooded, trapping and drowning the employee in the process. The insurer subsequently commenced payment of survivor’s benefits to his widow under M.G.L.c. § 39. In turn, the employee’s counsel brought a claim under M.G.L.c. § 28 for serious and willful misconduct on the part of the employer in the matter. As proof, employee’s counsel cited the serious violations found by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, while also conjuring a vital witness to the scene who had observed the employee in the trench prior to its collapse. After a series of back and forth negotiations between employee’s counsel and the insurer, the matter settled for $1,400,000. This settlement represented over seventeen (17) years of survivor’s benefits and provided the decedent’s widow and children with much needed financial security. Attorney(s): Sean C. Flaherty
A Suffolk County jury has awarded to an iron worker who suffered a disabling shoulder injury.
A settlement for injuries that required the removal of part of a worker’s leg.
A combined settlement for a Local 11 stagehand who had sustained an injury to the left hand, left shoulder, and lower back. The employee was using a come-along, or a power puller – a tool that uses a ratchet and winch system to pull and lift heavy objects – when the equipment malfunctioned, pulling the left arm into the mechanism and respectively crushing the left hand of the plaintiff. Along with the most critical injury sustained to the hand, the plaintiff injured the shoulder and lower back enough to need surgical intervention on both body parts. Unfortunately, despite multiple surgeries, there were permanent impairments. Attorney(s): George N. Keches and Loren Laskoski
A case involving a 21-year-old laborer for a severe crushing injury resulting in the amputation of both legs.
A Barnstable County Verdict for a drywall contractor who sustained a severe ankle fracture, leg fracture, neck fractures, and injuries to his wrists and face
